Of all the changes in Windows 8, the most baffling is how difficult it is to shut down or restart the PC. You must move your mouse to the upper right corner of the screen, find the “settings” charm and then the power option. Or switch to the Start screen, sign out and then choose the shutdown/restart option.
There’s an easier way – and it’s been part of Windows for years. It’s the ALT + F4 keyboard shortcut. When used in the desktop, it calls up a dialogue that lets you shut down, restart, switch users or put the PC to sleep. Of course, Windows 8.1 provides a more familiar option – if you remember to right-click the Start button!
